A Practitioner's Guide to Immune Support

Reviewed by Carolyn Mulally BS, RN, HN-BC · Holistic Health Partners

Immune support isn't one thing — it's a foundation you maintain year-round and targeted tools you reach for in season. The formulas above are what our clinic recommends across both: foundational nutrients, medicinal mushroom formulas, and comprehensive blends from Ortho Molecular, Thorne, Pure Encapsulations, and Designs for Health.

The foundation: zinc, vitamin C, and NAC

Immune function runs on a handful of nutrients most people under-consume. Zinc leads the list — in absorbable forms like picolinate (Thorne) or glycinate (NuMedica), not the zinc oxide found in cheap formulas. Vitamin C works better when it's absorbed, which is the point of liposomal delivery and flavonoid-paired formulas like C-Flav. NAC supports glutathione, your cells' own primary antioxidant.

Medicinal mushrooms and comprehensive blends

Mushroom formulas like M/R/S, Mycoceutics, and MycoActive draw on beta-glucans studied for their role in supporting healthy immune signaling. When you'd rather take one product than assemble five, practitioner blends like OrthoMune combine the key players — zinc, vitamin C, and botanicals — in one protocol.

How our clinic selects these products

Same standard as everything we carry: studied ingredients at meaningful doses, forms your body absorbs, third-party testing, and practitioner-channel manufacturers. If a formula leans on pixie-dust amounts of twenty ingredients, it isn't here.

Which form of zinc is best?

Picolinate and glycinate (bisglycinate) are well-absorbed and gentle; both are solid choices. Avoid zinc oxide. Dose matters too — more isn't better long-term, since high-dose zinc can deplete copper. That's a good consultation question.

What does liposomal vitamin C actually do?

Liposomal delivery wraps vitamin C in phospholipids, improving absorption and reducing the digestive upset that limits high-dose plain vitamin C. You get more from each dose.

What do medicinal mushroom formulas do?

Mushrooms like those in M/R/S and Mycoceutics provide beta-glucans — compounds studied for supporting healthy immune surveillance and balance. They're a year-round foundation piece, not a quick fix.

What should I take daily versus seasonally?

A common pattern our practitioner suggests: keep the foundation daily (zinc at a moderate dose, vitamin C or a mushroom formula), and add a comprehensive blend during high-demand seasons. Your routine should match your health picture — the free consultation is for exactly this.
