How Serralase Works

Proteolytic means protein-breaking: these enzymes cut the links that hold protein chains together. Serralase combines bacterial, pineapple and papaya enzymes that cut at different sites, rather than relying on a single protease. Catalase performs a separate reaction, breaking down hydrogen peroxide. The enteric coating helps protect these enzymes during their passage through the stomach; the manufacturer directs use between meals.

• Serratia peptidase: This bacterial enzyme cuts bonds within protein chains, breaking larger proteins into smaller pieces. It supplies the core proteolytic activity in Serralase, complemented by pineapple and papaya enzymes with different protein-cutting characteristics.
• Bromelain: Pineapple-derived bromelain breaks protein chains into smaller fragments. Its protein-cutting activity complements serratia peptidase and papain because these enzymes work at different points on proteins. This is its functional contribution to Serralase’s multi-enzyme blend.
• Papain: Papain is the protein-breaking enzyme from papaya. It cuts peptide bonds—the links between a protein’s building blocks. Including it alongside bromelain and serratia peptidase gives the formula another source of proteolytic activity rather than more of the same enzyme.
• Catalase: Catalase converts hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Hydrogen peroxide is produced during normal metabolism, and the body’s own catalase helps manage it. In Serralase, catalase adds a different enzyme function from the protein-breaking action of the other three ingredients.
